I am excited to announce that I will be acting as the sports editor of the Marshall Independent going forward and intend to bring the readers a more balanced sports section.

When I say balanced, I mean that we want our readers to be able to count on the Independent for consistent coverage of sports at the local and professional level for a wide variety of sports.

The main focus of change is going to be more consistent coverage of all area high school sports. This means that we will be a source that you can rely on for all sports at all of our area schools, both boys and girls.

In some cases, we’re unable to report on events because we don’t receive reports from school officials. If we don’t receive scores and stats from the coaches upon request, we can’t report on the game. Still, it’s our responsibility to increase our outreach and I will see to it that we do everything in our power to acquire as much information from coaches as possible to give readers the best coverage we can provide.
