MARSHALL — A third-inning offensive explosion helped the Marshall A’s run away with a 15-1 win over Sacred Heart on Sunday before lightning ended the game in the bottom of the sixth.

The A’s trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third, but the Marshall offense snapped into form with 11 runs to turn the tide quickly, sparked by a two-run homer from Connor Neubeck with two outs.

Marshall’s rally continued when walks to Tyler Wichmann and Liam Kruse and an Andrew Stelter single in between loaded the bases. Another walk to Ryan Schwagel and Charlie Jacobson reaching on an error each pushed across a run, and Jackson Sirovy hit a three-run double to bring the A’s cushion to 7-0.

Sirovy proceeded to score on a Cody Wichmann double, and AJ Toulouse singled home Wichmann. Neubeck doubled for his second hit of the inning, and a walk to Tyler Wichmann reloaded the bases. A wild pitch then scored Toulouse and Neubeck for an 11-1 lead.

Owen Kesteloot struck out 10 batters over the full six innings for Marshall, limiting the Saints to one unearned run on a hit and a walk. He also logged a single in his lone at-bat of the day.

Cody Wichmann finished the day with a game-high four hits and tied Neubeck and Dillon Loft for second on the team with two RBIs each, trailing only Sirovy’s four. Kruse and Schwagel each also reached base three times for Marshall.

A walk to Jack Bly and a Cody Wichmann single gave the A’s a strong start to the sixth. Sacred Heart retired each of the next two batters, but Dillon Loft kept the inning going with a two-run double before the roar of lightning caused the game to be called.

With one out in the top of the second, a pair of Marshall errors and a walk loaded the bases for Sacred Heart. A fielder’s choice gave Sacred Heart a go-ahead run before a fly-out ended the rally with a 1-0 Saints edge.

Kruse and Jacobson walked in the fourth with a Schwagel single in between, and a Sirovy sacrifice fly and a Cody Wichmann RBI single gave the A’s a 13-1 lead.

Marshall improves to 4-2 and next goes on the road to take on the Willmar Rails, Wednesday at 7 p.m. From there, the A’s go on the road for the Belle Plaine Tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
