Two injured in Hwy. 23 crash

RUSSELL — Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Minnesota Highway 23, the Minnesota State Patrol said. Two Marshall residents received non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol reported.

The crash was reported at 4:03 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 23 and Lyon County Road 2. A 2007 GMC Yukon driven by Deborah Jane Newton, 69, of Marshall, and a 2018 Toyota Tundra driven by Evan Paul Johnson, 22, of Le Mars, Iowa, were both traveling westbound on Highway 23 when the vehicles collided, the State Patrol said.

Newton and a passenger in the Yukon, 70-year-old Michael Gerald Newton, of Marshall, were transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center with injuries, the State Patrol said.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Russell Fire Department, North Memorial Ambulance and Balaton Ambulance all responded at the crash scene.
