To the Editor: As a Marshall City Council Member and as a parent of three Marshall students, I know how important strong schools are to the well-being of our local communities. That is why the upcoming school referendum is such an important decision for students and community members alike. The district faces a $2 million deficit for the next school year because state funding has lagged behind inflation for over two decades, and one-time COVID relief funds have nearly run out. To the editor: We’ve “graduated” in a sense in our elections in this city, state, and nation to a more reasonable set of rules. I’ve noticed that we still love to mark the countdown to “Election Day” but really it’s just time to adjust to an “Election Season.” In our state, the earliest of any state in the nation, in-person-early-voting and voting-by-mail began September 23rd! Need accountability from school district

To the Editor: We the people , the taxpayers, are asking the District #413 School Board, specifically, for what the money, $675 /student (added to the already budgeted approximately $7500/student) in the referendum is going to be used? The letter we received in the mail was very general, it didn’t say anything in that respect. Where is “Truth in Taxation” that allows the people to make an informed decision about voting on this referendum? Also, the District #413 received COVID money, as did all school districts. Respect others despite differences

Dear Editor: In the midst of our current political campaign for the fast approaching elections, our former President’s tribalism has continued on, without regard for breaking laws, both petty and huge, by him and by most of those close to him. To the editor: I am writing in support of David Sturrock for Lyon County in District 2. My husband Bob and I have known David since he came to Marshall in 1996. We have always appreciated David’s active support of many local organizations, including the Republican party (which we ere also active in), Boy Scouts (we raised our Boy Scouts, too) and our church (David followed Bob as church council president).
