Painting work on Holy Redeemer steeple to continue next week

Submitted photo Crew members from Krause Konstruction were at work removing chipped paint from the steeple at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church this week. Painting work on the steeple is anticipated to last through the next week.

MARSHALL — It had been a few years, but workers were once again high above Holy Redeemer Catholic Church this week, preparing to add fresh paint to part of the church steeple.

Holy Redeemer staff told parishioners to expect to see the painting crew’s vehicle and equipment parked on Lyon Street over the weekend.

The painting crew was returning to Holy Redeemer to do warranty maintenance work on the steeple’s paint, said parish administrator Quentin Brunsvold. The steeple was last painted in 2015, but a portion of the paint didn’t adhere properly on the south side, he said.

“They’re fixing what didn’t go right.”

This week, the workers were scraping paint on the steeple with the help of a tall bucket truck arm. Brunsvold said the work would continue next week, with cleaning of the affected part of the steeple and fresh paint. It’s likely the painting work will be done by the end of next week, he said.

The painters’ vehicle and equipment will be taking up two or three handicapped parking spaces in front of the church on Lyon Street over the weekend, Holy Redeemer staff said. However, there will still be handicapped spaces available in the church parking lot near Sixth Street, and along Fifth Street.

While the steeple hasn’t been painted in several years, general maintenance on the church steeple is an ongoing task. Brunsvold said the structure is inspected annually.

Starting at $3.95/week.
