Marshall in heat advisory this week

MARSHALL – A heat advisory is hitting marshall this week, with potential thunderstorms coming into the night keeping the temperature humid.

According to the National Weather service, Lyon County is under a heat advisory on Monday from 1 to 9 p.m. and a hazardous weather outlook until Sunday.

Temperatures hit their peak on Monday at 94 degrees. However, according to Andrew Kalin with the National Weather Service, the summer-like heat is expected to continue for the rest of the week. With highs into the 90s on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Beyond just the heat, the days are also expected to be humid, with humidity levels dependent on overnight thunderstorms, which could potentially hit Marshall every night, said Kalin.

Kalin recommends Marshall residents to limit their time outside during this heatwave, however if they must, to wear light colored loose fitting clothing, taking regular breaks in air conditioned buildings and focusing on staying hydrated.

High temperatures and thunderstorms could mean potential power outages in the area. According to a news release from Excel Energy, repair crews are at the ready to repair and safeguard any power outages that could take place to make sure residents have their power back as soon as possible.

If a power outage occurs, Excel energy is recommending homes create a power outage safety kit with a Battery-powered radio or television, flashlights, batteries, backup phone chargers, bottled water and nonperishable food, a manual can opener, a first aid kit, extension cords for partial outages and manufacturer’s instructions on how to manually open power-operated doors like garage doors.

Starting at $3.95/week.
