Tricia Barbara (Poss) Zimmer was born on November 1, 1971, in Hendricks, MN, to David and Barbara (Serreyn) Poss. While growing up, she lived in several communities including White, SD and Parker, SD, where she graduated from High School. In her youth she loved playing volleyball, singing in the choir, and playing drums in the school band. She went to the University of South Dakota where she attended undergraduate, graduate, and law school. On July 23, 1994, she was united in marriage to Stephen J. Zimmer at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD. To this couple were born sons Stephen D. and Jacob.

After she obtained her law degree, she moved to Marshall, MN where she began her career as a Law Clerk. Her career included working as an Assistant Lyon County Attorney, an adjunct professor at Southwest Minnesota State University, and Vice President of Human Resources at North Star Mutual Insurance Co. On September 14, 2018, she was appointed as a Judge in the Fifth Judicial District.

More than anything she loved her two boys. She was a loving and devoted mother that attended every single event possible, whether that be marching band, track, tae kwon do, football, or half marathons. She was her sons’ biggest fan and supported them in everything they participated in. She especially loved to travel with her boys. Some of her favorite destinations included the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Ireland, the Great Smoky Mountains, the Black Hills, and Myrtle Beach.

Tricia died on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN, after a brief but courageous battle with an aggressive cancer.
