MINOT - Minot State University took advantage of three Southwest Minnesota State turnovers in the second quarter, while also taking advantage of a dropped snap on an SMSU punt attempt, to score 28 points and cruise to a 59-0 victory in NSIC football on Saturday afternoon at Herb Parker Stadium. MSU, which opened the season with three close losses to Emporia State, Wayne State and Augustana, led 14-0 midway through the second quarter before three straight SMSU turnovers blew the game open. MARSHALL – The No. 14 ranked Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team completed a perfect home weekend with a 3-0 victory over Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon inside the PE Gym. SMSU earned the sweep by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-21. SMSU, which extended its winning streak to three in a row, is now 9-2 overall and 3-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. MINNEOTA — Minneota football extended its winning streak to 49 games with a 65-14 victory over Canby, setting a new school record and tying for the fifth-longest winning streak in Minnesota State High School League history. After Canby opened the game with a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown, the Vikings responded with 24 consecutive points to take control. WESTBROOK — Tenacious defensive effort set the tone for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team on Thursday as the Chargers downed Pipestone Area 25-16, 29-27, 25-15 to earn their fifth victory in their last six matches. Leah VanDeWiele ended the match with 17 digs, followed gy 10 apiece from Hadley Jenniges and Sydney Foster. Crossing the border to take on Sioux Falls Christian, the Tigers rode standout performances from Kezlyn Pinckney and Julia Fahl to a 25-19, 19-25, 25-12, 25-23 win. CANBY — The Canby/Minneota girls cross country team dominated its home invitational on Thursday, finishing with three of the top-6 runners in the eight-team event. The Lancers finished with 37 points, beating out Flandreau’s 56 and Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s 76. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton also finished with 201 points, and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Lakeview placed fifth and sixth with 111 and 113, respectively.
