Just five weeks into his rookie season in the National Football League, Marshall native Trey Lance is set to make his first career start on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan announced the switch Friday in a press conference.

“I’m excited obviously, but not going to make it bigger than what it is,” Lance said Friday of the news.

Lance takes over the starting job for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who was pulled at halftime of Sunday’s loss to Seattle with a calf injury.
