Guetter leads Wabasso golf in Tomahawk opener

FAIRFAX — Brayden Guetter placed 18th out of 65 golfers at the first Tomahawk Valley Conference boys golf tournament of the season on Wednesday as the Rabbits placed 11th in the 11-team field. The girls team also placed 11th at its meet in Winthrop.
The Rabbit boys finished with a team score of 477, leaving them one spot behind Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart’s 451. Sleepy Eye United took the top spot with a 345, followed by Alden-Confer’s 375 and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop’s 383.
Guetter shot a 26-over 98 in the 19-hole event, highlighted by an eagle on hole 12 and a par on the front 9.
Paxten Guetter was the Rabbits’ No. 2 scorer on the day, placing 52nd with a 119, and Kelten Steen shot a 129 to place 61st. Bradyn Weidann and Chase Lensing tied for the Rabbits’ final scoring spot in 62nd with a 131.
Truman-GHEC-Martin Luther’s Gavin Kester tied Sleepy Eye’s Anders Coulson and Nolan Kucera for the top individual spot in the tournament with a 12-over 84.
On the girls side, Wabasso shot a 539 to slot in behind Martin County West’s 501. Springfield was the top team with a 408, Sleepy Eye United took second at 413 and Alden-Conger rounded out the podium with a 424.
The sophomore duo of Alexis Jensen and Heidi Foy led the Rabbit girls in the tournament. Jensen placed 35th with a 123 and Foy took 39th with a 125. They were followed by Carlee Jenniges in 49th with a 142 and Brooklynn Beadell in 53rd with a 149.
T/GHEC/ML eighth grader Charlotte Barhow was the girls individual champion with a 94, and Sleepy Eye’s Sam Price and Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky took second with a 96 and third with a 97, respectively.
Wabasso competes again on Thursday at Oakdale Golf Club. The meet was still in progress at the time of print.
