Environmentalism adding to ‘global warming’

To the editor: The 8-13-2022 ‘Competition and choice’ expresses disapproval of Gov. Walz’s mandate that would reduce transportation greenhouse gases by 30% by 2025 and 80% by 2050. However, nothing is said as to how much reduction in atmospheric CO2. these mandates will produce. There are about 2 million registered cars in Minnesota. The average car emits about 4.6 tons of CO2 per year. So Minn. cars emit roughly 10 million tons per year. Replacing all those cars with electric powered units would be totally worthless for controlling global warming. In my 5-20-2022 letter ...

Lack of investment in education

To the editor: Want to raise the competence and vitality of our nation? Rather than saddle college students with unprecedented loan debt due to lack of investment in education, we need to return to valuing education. A good education helps people get jobs that generate taxes which actually pay back educational investment. So little to disagree with there, but since 1980 Republican policy has starved education, increased student debt while making tons of money for banks. Dear Editor: The recent squabble regarding the forgiveness of some student loans causes me to pause and reflect on the variety of ways which any such action affects us all while benefiting only the few. From Savings and loans, farms, automobile manufacturers, investment firms, and yes, billionaires who needed nothing more than to satisfy their own greed; our government has a long history of helping those in need or who have simply fallen victim to some bad judgment. You don’t need to rain on the parade

To the editor: Congratulations to the city of Marshall for recently celebrating it’s 150th year anniversary, how exciting! In those 150 years, up until somewhat recently, I am sure many people had to hide at the fact that they truly belonged to the LGBTQ+ community (before that was even a community). But now we live in a time that isn’t so hateful to those that are different, by no choice of their own. We can now be celebrated for who we are and accepted by our peers. To the Editor: The Constitution of the United States guarantees us the freedom of religion, not freedom from religion, which is a common misconception. Every American has the right “to worship or not to worship” as they choose, and the First Amendment prohibits the federal government from either establishing a national church or interfering with existing state religions. Biden trying to buy votes

To the editor: In regard to President Joe Biden granting $10,000 in student loan forgiveness —what does that say to all the millions of college grads who have faithfully paid back what they agreed to when they signed a contract years before? I am sure many of you who have paid back your loans and those who never went to college are more than happy to bail them out.
