Who’s paying for illegal immigrants’ driver license fees in Minnesota?

To the editor: I have some deep concerns about the information that just came out of the governor’s office regarding the recently enacted law “Driver’s License for All.” Reading through the propaganda sheet, I couldn’t find out who is paying for the illegal immigrant’s fees. How will they be able to read the highway signs since some speak and read only Spanish, Hmong, Somalian, etc.? Yes, and, at whose expense will they have an interpreter to study and pass the written test? Secondly, but very importantly, how will the unleashing of these English-illiterate drivers onto ...

Other duties besides voting

To the editor: Over the last few decades we have seen a lot of new “interpretations” made of what is clearly written in our Constitution. Words such as “hate speech”, “hate crime”, “equity”, multiple “special” rights and more have filtered their way into the laws, statutes and policies. The Creator granted the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (property)” to each and every individual human being. Legal citizens under the Constitution of the United States have these rights. These rights do not increase or diminish due to the status of any ...

The heat is on

To the editor: As Minnesotans we like to talk about the weather, but this stretch of heat and climate-related calamities is a discussion that seems to divide us. For far too long the fossil fuel industry and conservative think tanks have used divisive tactics to keep us common folk from seeing the reckless policies and practices they push. It’s time to get wise to tactics that downplay the importance of education, healthcare, the environment, diversity and much-needed corporate regulation. Blaming our system of government for all of our problems while calling Social Security, ...

Indulging in ‘wild speculation?

To the editor: Re: Media silent on Biden family (Aug. 15). A recent letter to the editor implied that an individual who has had SARs (suspicious activity report) filed on them is somehow tainted and of dubious character. I can’t speak to the rest of Mr. Markell’s statements. It is obvious we follow different news sources. But I am very knowledgeable about SARs. Having a SAR filed on you does not mean you have done anything illegal. You would not know that a SAR has been filed on you. Mr. Markell could very well be in the data bank with a SAR for all he knows. But most ...

First Amendment, hate speech, and the press

To the editor: In last month’s responses to the Letter to the Editor, “Why publish the hate speech?”, Mr. Yorde and Ms. Madetzke were both quick to bring up the 1st Amendment. Mr. Yorde even quoted it in his response: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech...”. In their rush to insist their constitutional right to express a view that many find hateful, they both forgot the very first word of the amendment: Congress. Unless something very strange happened recently, the ...

Media silent on Biden family

To the editor: This is my opinion. The political cartoon in Tuesday’s (Aug. 1) paper was right on. News medial obsessed with the non-stop, 24x7 questionable indictments on President Trump vs almost total silence on the Biden crime family. Here is an up to date synopsis of the news for those who rely on the fake news. Where is the coverage of the millions of dollars that have been funneled from China, Ukraine, Russia, Romania and other countries to 21 separate shell companies? Can anyone explain how or why some of Biden’s grandchildren have mysteriously received at least a ...
