To the editor: Gen. Mark Milley has served our country and the Constitution with distinguished honor for the last 44 years, which is longer than I’ve been alive. His dedication to and love for his country is undeniable. He, like all the men and women who serve our country, put the Constitution and the American people above their personal wants or needs. To the editor: Three Independent items during the first week in September caught my attention: A 9-5-23 letter telling us that discipline is out of control in the schools. The 9-6-23 ‘Small towns disbanding police forces’ stated: “Fewer people are applying to be police officers, and more officers are retiring or resigning at a tremendous rate,” “Lyon Co. bans cannabis use in public places,” details the county ordinance put in place since Minnesota legalized adult cannabis. Good time to review school disciplinary polices

To the editor: School is starting once again, and now is the perfect time for schools to review their disciplinary policies with both their students and parents. People would be shocked at the behavior of many students today. I wonder how many realize teachers, administrators, and other school staff struggle to hold students accountable for their actions.
