Marshall Area YMCA opportunity great honor Helping the Marshall area form and open a YMCA was the greatest honor of my 30 plus year YMCA career. My journey with the Marshall Area YMCA started shortly after the Y was incorporated in 2001. You may wonder why we’re celebrating 20 years in 2023 when the YMCA as an organization is 22 years old. We’re celebrating this year because 20 years ago we opened the YMCA building. This was most people’s first connection to the YMCA and is the perfect anniversary to celebrate. Back to my Marshall journey… Long time Marshall ...

Editor’s Note: The Marshall Area YMCA is observing its 20th anniversary. The following are contributions from YMCA members and from those who were involved in the development of the facility. YMCA offered additional option for running When the Marshall Area YMCA opened 20 years ago, I just thought of it as just a place to exercise. I have been an avid runner for many years now and I try to run outside whenever possible. I was able to use the Y as an additional option for when the weather outside just wasn’t great for running, or if it was late at night. The Y supported me in ...

My story at the Marshall YMCA

To the editor: I lived in Marshall most of my life, and for the last 16 years I’ve been a member of the YMCA. I’m a volunteer for a number of programs at the YMCA as well as a board member currently serving my second time on the board. But for me it all started when my children were young, and my wife and I were looking for some activities for our kids to be involved in, as well as for us as adults, at that time I had no idea of all the wonderful things that the YMCA was going do for our family. The YMCA provided my family the opportunity to live a healthier life, in a safe ...

Blood on Biden hands

To the editor: Recent reports suggest US weapons used by Hammas in Israel came from Afghanistan. Israel has so far lost nearly 600 dead. So far 11 Americans are dead many more are held hostage. On Sept. 12 the Wall Street Journal reported the Biden Administration gave $6 Billion to Iran. Our southern border is wide open as many as 160 terrorist watch lists have been caught the question of how many were not. Are we now counting the days until a major attack on the U.S.? I just want to say Biden and his administration are the most incompetent in my 59 years of life. Paul ...

YMCA board of directors offer support for building new pool

Dear editor: The YMCA works side-by-side with our neighbors to address critical community needs and pressing social concerns. We strive to nurture the potential of our youth, improve the health of all citizens, build a sense of community, and ensure the most vulnerable get the care and support they need. The proposed City of Marshall aquatic center can be a part of helping us meet our mission. The YMCA and the City of Marshall have existing partnerships in addition to the potential to work together in future aquatics programming. The new aquatic center being located near the YMCA ...

The silence is deafening

To the editor: Gen. Mark Milley has served our country and the Constitution with distinguished honor for the last 44 years, which is longer than I’ve been alive. His dedication to and love for his country is undeniable. He, like all the men and women who serve our country, put the Constitution and the American people above their personal wants or needs. They are literally willing to die if it means protecting the American people and our constitution. With this in mind, it is very difficult to write this next sentence. On Friday, Sept. 22, former President Donald Trump suggested he ...
