SMSU to have Trans Day of Visibility events

Southwest Minnesota State University is hosting a series of events for Trans Day of Visibility. The events are today and Thursday. The programs are focused on empowering and celebrating LGBTQIA+ students as well as creating safe and inclusive environments for students to live and learn. Diversity, equity, and inclusion educator and motivational speaker, Tarrence Robertson will lead two sessions today, one for faculty and staff, and the other for students. SMSU will host ‘Prairies, Potholes and Streams’ U of M Extension Minnesota Master Naturalist Class

The campus of Southwest Minnesota State University is the host site for “Prairies, Potholes and Streams in Southwest Minnesota,” a Minnesota Master Naturalist Class from the University of Minnesota Extension. Instructors for the class are Marshall residents, Candace and Will Thomas. The class will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning April 9 and continuing through May 9, from 6-8:30 p.m., for a total of 12 evening sessions plus two all-day Saturday field trips on April 20 and May 5. Marshall students earn recognition at Minnesota Business Professionals of America conference

Fifty students from Marshall participated in the annual Minnesota Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Leadership Conference March 14-16, at the Minneapolis Hyatt Regency with more than 1,100 members competing. During the school year, 1,800 Minnesota BPA student members took part in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing them to compete in nearly 70 events focused in the areas of finance, business administration, management information systems, digital communication anddesign, and management, marketing and communication. SMSU GOLD College kick-off Feb. 28

The spring kick-off for GOLD College will be from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in Charter Hall 201 at Southwest Minnesota State University. The kickoff event will allow attendees to hear directly from course professors, register for classes, and watch the Emmy-winning documentary film “Playing Haydn for the Angel of Death.” This project was led by Dr. Daniel Rieppel who worked with SMSU alumnus and opera singer, Ryan Hugh Ross, to pair the late Bill Holm’s poem of the same name to music composed by Martha Helen Schmidt. SDSU announces dean’s list More than 3,400 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance over the fall 2023 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the dean’s list. To earn dean’s list distinctions in SDSU’s colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
