Jacobs, Mustangs each place 6th at Fall Brawl

HUDSON, Wis. — Isabella Jacobs placed sixth out of 79 golfers at the Minnesota State/Concordia-St. Paul Womens Fall Brawl on Tuesday, leading the Mustangs to a tie for sixth place out of 14 teams at the two-day event.
Jacobs shot a career-low 2-over 73 on the first day of competition to enter the final round in third place. She put together a 6-over 77 on Tuesday, putting her at 8-over for the tournament to tie Winona State’s Kelby Anderson and Northwest Missouri’s Clara Peake for sixth.
Jacobs recorded birdies on holes 7, 11 and 12 on Tuesday, giving her one more than she had on Tuesday, but had eight pars and two double bogeys in the second round after logging 12 pars and one double bogey on Monday.
SMSU finished with a team score of 76-over, shooting a 35-over as a group on Tuesday after shooting a 41-over on Monday to jump two spots on the team leaderboard.
Minnesota State won the event going away, shooting a 31-over to beat runner-up Washburn by 10 strokes. Victoria Woytassek led the Mavericks with a 2-over 144 for the tournament, including an eagle and three birdies to shoot a 1-under 70 on Tuesday. The Mavericks also had Emerson Garlie finish the tournament in third at 4-over, one stroke behind Concordia-St. Paul’s Addi Wood.
After shooting a 16-over 87 on Monday, Meghan Pundsack bounced back with a 5-over 76 on Tuesday, good for the seventh-best round of the day. She logged three birdies total, two of which came on the back nine along with five pars, to make the leap from 62nd place up to 34th at 21-over for the tournament.
Berkeley Steffens jumped eight spots on the leaderboard up to a tie for 26th with Minnesota State’s Ava Olson, Upper Iowa’s Fern Babinski and Bemidji State’s Haylee Kammann. Steffen shot a 7-over 78 on Tuesday, building off two birdies and five pars on the back nine to put together a round four strokes lower than her first outing of the tournament.
Carly Hamman rounded out the Mustang scorers in 66th place with a two-day score of 31-over for the tournament. Hamman shot a 14-over 85 on Monday and a 17-over 88 on Tuesday. She had four pars, 12 bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey in her final round.
Allie Nedved and Roni Hook also competed in the tournament for SMSU. Nedved placed 71st at 35-over with a 21-over on Tuesday, and Hook placed 78th at 43-over with a 23-over on Tuesday.
SMSU hosts its first home meet of the season, the Mustang Invitational, next week at Marshall Golf Club. The two-day tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27 and wrap up on Sept. 28.
