JORDAN — Marshall’s Dayton Webskowski and Maddi Panka each competed as individuals in the first Class AA girls golf tournament on Tuesday, with Webskowski wrapping up the first day of competition in the top half of the 88-player field.
Webskowski carded a 13-over 85 on the day, putting her in a tie with Hill-Murray’s Lucy Halada, Wadena-Deer Creek’s Emma Weniger and Detroit Lakes’ Jaycie Sliper for 39th. Webskowski was particularly strong on the front 9, logging a hole-7 birdie and five pars to go into the back 9 at 4-over.
Panka shot a 93 to tie for 70th place with Blue Earth Area’s Katelyn Storbeck. Panka finished her state tournament debut with four pars, three of which came on the back 9.
Webskowski and Panka will wrap up their prep season — and Webskowski’s prep career as she prepares to compete for Southwest Minnesota State University next year — when they tee off for the second round of the Class AA state tournament today, starting at noon. Tee times and groupings were not yet finalized at the time of print.
