SMSU ATHLETICS: Turf installation project underway at The Schwan Regional Event Center
MARSHALL — Work is currently underway in replacing the turf at The Schwan Regional Event Center on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University in preparation for the 2022 fall season.
According to SMSU Director of Facilities Tony Nubile, the renovation project, which began on Tuesday, is scheduled to be complete by the end of July.
Sprinturf, the contractor for the project, will remove and replace 100,000 square feet of synthetic turf. The project will also include two new field goal posts, along with a 6′ by 6″ concrete walk beside the seating area for equipment storage. A new netting system will also be installed to cover and protect the scoreboard on the north end of the stadium.
The new turf will feature the current SMSU Athletics logo at midfield along with the wordmark ‘Mustangs’ in each endzone.
The Schwan Regional Event Center, which opened in 2008, is the competition home for SMSU football and soccer and has also hosted SMSU softball games in the spring. The facility is also the home of Marshall High School football and soccer and is used by and numerous campus and community organizations.
