Wing, Winn’s tie as individual runners-up in Tigers’ home win
MARSHALL — Deacon Wing and Elijah Winn combined for seven birdies to tie for second in the Marshall boys golf team’s home triangular on Thursday, leading the Tigers to a first-place finish.
The Tigers fielded two teams in the four-team event. Marshall black placed first with a team score of 301, beating out runner-up Fergus Falls by five strokes and New Ulm by six. Marshall White also finished with a score of 330.
Wing and Winn each shot a 73 on the day to tie as runners-up in the field of 24. Wing birdied each of his first two holes and added three more on the back 9 to get to 1-over, and Winn birdied holes 1 and 9 with 13 pars.
Fergus’ Falls Quintin Kuehl was the individual winner of the event, finishing at 1-under 71.
Keegan Fossum and Ethan Wendorff rounded out Marshall Black’s scorers in seventh and ninth, respectively. Fossum carded a 5-over 77 with a birdie on hole 11, and Wendorff logged a trio of birdies to finish at 6-over 78.
Freshman Morgan Rokeh led Marshall White with a sixth-place finish at 4-over 76, birdying each of his last two holes. Milo Swenson also put together a top-10 round with a 78 to place ninth.
Aiden Bly was Marshall White’s No. 3 scorer with an 87 to place 20th, and Logan Eickhoff and McCoy Guenther tied for 21st to round out the Marshall scorers with an 89.
While not scoring, Carter Manthei shot a 79 to place 13th and Jaylen Koster shot an 82 to place 18th.
Marshall’s boys next compete at Montgomery National Golf Club in a Big South Division Event on Monday at 4 p.m.
RED ROCK CONFERENCE BOYS
MT. LAKE — Neil Kuehl and Dominic Lee tied for third place in the first Red Rock Conference boys meet of the season on Thursday, leading the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Coyotes to a first-place team finish.
HLOF/WWG compiled a team score of 335, edging out Mountain Lake Area by a single strong. Murray County Central also placed fifth in the eight-team meet at 368, followed by Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 380 and Red Rock Central at 411.
Kuehl and Lee each shot a 10-over 82 on the day, trailing only MLAC’s Micah East’s 79 and Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton’s 81. Kuehl had a stretch of five straight holes on the back nine where he logged a par or better, including two birdies, while Lee also had a birdie on hole 8.
Brady Madison placed seventh in the meet with an 84, including five straight pars on the back nine, and Kellen Hollahan rounded out the Coyotes’ scorers in 13th place out of 47 golfers with an 87.
Kaden Landsman led MCC with an 85 to place ninth, RRC’s Finn Batalden and RTR’s Colten Thomsen led their respective teams in a tie for 10th with an 86.
Red Rock Meet No. 2 is slated for Thursday at Slayton Country Club at 2 p.m.
RED ROCK CONFERENCE GIRLS
FULDA — Teigyn O’Leary and Izzy Thomas took the top two spots at the first Red Rock Conference girls golf meet of the season on Thursday, leading Russell-Tyler-Ruthton to a first-place finish in the seven-team event.
O’Leary shot a15-over 87 to top the 31-player field, finishing her round with three birdies. Thomas also logged a birdie as she tied Murray County Central’s Rachael Huso for second with an 89.
RTR compiled a team score of 377, beating out runner-up MCC’s 383. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove also placed fourth with a 433 and Red Rock Central placed fifth with a 452.
Leah Norgaard was the Knights’ No. 3 scorer, tying MCC’s Natalie Einck for sixth place with a 95, and Natalie Thomas was RTR’s final scorer in 17th at 106.
Seniors Lizzie Daniels and Elysia Korver rounded out MCC’s scorers in 12th with a 98 and 13th with a 101.
RRC’s Jorga Brown and HLOF/WWG’s Cadey Brown led their respective teams in a tie for 10th with a 97.
Red Rock Meet No. 2 is slated for Thursday at Tyler Golf Club at 2 p.m.
