YME 11, KMS 1
GRANITE FALLS — Four players logged three hits for the Yellow Medicine East softball team on Thursday, helping the Sting rout Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg for an 11-1 Camden Conference win in six innings.
Bayli Sneller, Alana Almich, Emma Keller and Charlotte Paslawski each had three hits in the game, including a triple for Sneller and a double for Almich and Paslawski. Almich also drove in four runs while Paslawski plated another three.
Sneller struck out 13 batters in her complete-game outing in the circle for YME, limiting the Fighting Saints to one earned run on two hits with no walks.
Chasity Schmitz scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the second, reaching base on a dropped third strike and scoring on an Everra Leenertz ground out.
The Sting pulled away an inning later. Sneller hit a leadoff triple before scoring on an Almich single. Another pair of singles from Schmitz and Keller loaded the bases, and Paslawski capitalized with a three-run double to bring the gap to five runs.
YME tacked on another pair of runs in each of the next two innings, and kept KMS off the board until they hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth. Yet, back-to-back walks to Schmitz and Teagan Balfany put the clinching run on base, and a Paslawski single put them both in scoring position. Evi Jimenez was hit by a pitch to push across one run and Brianna Nelson singled in another to enact the mercy rule.
YME improves to 4-3 and next plays on Friday at BOLD. The game was still in progress at the time of print.
