SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Mustangs open season with several high finishes at SDSU
BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s track & field teams opened the 2021-22 indoor season on Friday with several top 10 finishes at the SDSU Holiday Open and Multi held inside at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
For the men’s team, Jed Hansen finished sixth overall in the pole vault setting a school record at 4.55m.
Renald Pierre advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and placed seventh overall with a time of 8.35.
Max Schmitt ran 40.58 in the 300m hurdles to earn a third place finish, while Nathan Lear tied for seventh in the long jump with a distance of 6.32m.
Josh Kemp placed 13th out of 39 in the weight throw with a mark of 15.97m.
Zak Kubitz competed in the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday and finished seventh with a school-record best point total of 3,753.
For the SMSU women’s team, Sierra Clifford picked up a third place finish in the 300m dash crossing the line at 41.86
Isatu Shirek just missed making the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.13 to place ninth overall.
Alexis Evrley competed in the discus on Saturday and finished eighth with a toss of 39.98m.
