PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: RTR slips past MCC, 5-3

TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball team defeated Murray County Central 5-3 on Monday.

Cody Wichmann, Blake Christianson and Jack Christianson led RTR with two hits and an RBI each while Hayden Gravely added a hit. Cody Wichmann earned the win in relief, going three innings while allowing just one hit and struck out two. Gravley earned the start, going four innings while allowing three runs on three hits and struck out seven.

Payton Coulter led MCC with three hits and two RBI while Abe Paulzine added a hit. Derek Kluis took the loss on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings while allowing four runs on five hits and struck out seven.

MCC (7-4) will face Luverne today at home at 4:30 p.m. while RTR (10-3) will face Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian on the road today at 4:30 p.m.

COTTONWOOD — The Yellow Medicine East baseball team defeated Lakeview 13-10 in eight innings on Monday.

Nikson Knapper led YME with two hits and three RBI while Hunter Wilke added a hit and three RBI, Cody Dahlager had a hit and two RBI and Cole Fischer had a hit and an RBI. Bryce Sneller earned the win in relief, going three innings while allowing three runs on one hit and struck out five. Caleb Jans earned the start, going four innings while allowing seven runs on eight hits and struck out two.

Caine Herigon, Luke Sander and Brock Kvistad led Lakeview with three hits and an RBI each while Connor Larsen had two hits and an RBI and Cayden Caron had a hit and two RBI. Kvistad took the loss in relief, going 2 2/3 innings while allowing three runs on one hit and struck out one. Herigon earned the start, going 2 1/3 innings while allowing nine runs on four hits and struck out six.

YME (11-4) will face Redwood Valley on the road today at 5 p.m. while Lakeview (2-11) will face DB at home on May 25 at 4:30 p.m.
