SMSU suffers first loss of season at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team returned to action on Friday night suffering a 28-6 loss to Wisconsin-Parkside.

SMSU drops to 1-1 overall, while Parkside, which is an associate member of the NSIC, improves to 1-2.

The Rangers won the first eight bouts in building a 28-0 lead. SMSU lost suffer close matches, including Jackson Stauffacher losing 7-5 at 133, Justin Sampson dropping a 5-2 match at 141 and Sean Howk losing by a 5-4 decision at 157. Caden Steffen would suffer a 3-1 sudden-death loss at 184, before Jackson Ryan earned SMSU’s first points with a 5-3 win at 197 and was followed by a 6-0 win by Jacob Dykes at 285.

Southwest Minnesota State will have its home opener next Thursday facing Augustana at 7 p.m. inside the PE Gym.
