PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall swimming and diving places 10th at Maroon and Gold Invite

MINNEAPOLIS — The Marshall girls swimming and diving team was well-represented at the Maroon and Gold Invitational at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Saturday, with 13 athletes competing as the Tigers placed 10th with a score of 84 in the Maroon division. Blaine took first with a score of 384, followed by Delano in second (317.5) and Sartell-St. Stephen in third (276).

In the 200 yard medley relay, the team of Mansi Bell, Maddie Larson, Paige Milstead and Alli Kopitski placed 25th with a time of 2:08.65 while the team of Alex Larson, Emma Beavers, Alana Condezo and Holly Netzley placed 31st with a time of 2:10.87. In the 200 yard freestyle, Kaylie Stucke took 14th with a time of 2:06.50 while Lydia Hurst took 18th with a time of 2:08.02 and Milstead took 41st with a time of 2:22.86. In the 200 yard individual medley, Amelie Schmidtke took fifth with a time of 2:17.29 while Maddie Larson took 22nd with a time of 2:28.63 and Kopitski took 32nd with a time of 2:31.70.

In the 50 yard freestyle, Clara Bader took 17th with a time of 26.77 seconds while Condezo took 42nd with a time of 29.56. In the 1 meter dive, Reagan Brandt took 24th with a score of 137.85 while Brooklyn Gossen took 28th with a score of 121.15 and Bader took 34th with a score of 99. This is the first time in five years that Marshall has competed in diving at the meet.

In the 100 yard butterfly, Schmidtke took first with a time of 59.88 to come in under the state cut to lead the way for Marshall, while Condezo took 25th with a time of 1:11.69 and Alex Larson took 41st with a time of 1:18.03. In the 100 yard freestyle, Beavers took 32nd with a time of 1:02.67 and Milstead took 41st with a time of 1:07.20. In the 500 yard freestyle, Stucke took 12th with a time of 5:37.96 while Hurst took 17th (5:41.73) and Bell took 34th (6:04.33).

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Bader, Hurst, Stucke and Schmidtke took fifth with a time of 1:45.96 while the team of Maddie Larson, Milstead, Kopitski and Bell tied for 21st with a time of 1:55.00 and the team of Condezo, Beavers, Alex Larson and Netzley took 30th with a time of 1:58.14.

In the 100 yard backstroke, Bell took 28th with a time of 1:11.50 while Kopitski took 29th with a time of 1:11.69 and Alex Larson took 43rd with a time of 1:17.98. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Beavers took 18th with a time of 1:16.20 while Maddie Larson took 19th with a time of 1:16.52 and Gossen took 42nd with a time of 1:28.81.

In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the team of Schmidtke, Bader, Hurst and Stucke took 10th with a time of 3:54.31.

Boys soccer

Marshall 3, St. Peter 3 (2 OT)

ST. PETER — The Marshall boys soccer team used a come-from-behind effort to earn a 3-3 tie in double overtime against St. Peter on Saturday.

Trailing 2-0, the Tigers were able get a pair of goals from Bryan Ramirez and Ivan Celedon to force an overtime period. In overtime, the Saints took a 3-2 lead on a free kick in the first session of OT before the Tigers answered with roughly two minutes left of the second session of OT when Maher Abdallah deflects a corner kick attempt off a St. Peter player’s head and into the net to bring it to the 3-3 tie.

Marshall will face Worthington on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Cross Country

Milaca Mega Meet

Canby/Minneota

MILACA — The Canby/Minneota boys and girls had a strong day at the Milaca Mega Meet, with the girls team taking first place and the boys team placing 14th.

On the girls side, Grace Drietz led the way with a fourth place finish, running the course in 20:13. Braelyn Merritt took 22nd with a time of 22:03, McKenzie Ruether took 38th with a time of 22:45, Faith Traen took 47th with a time of 23:04, Claire Stoks took 51st with a time of 23:15, RyAnn Hansen took 151st with a time of 26:17 and Aidyn Bruns took 155th with a time of 26:33 to round out their times.

On the boys side, Blake Stoks led the way with a 39th place finish, running the course in 18:24. Alexander Full took 89th with a time 19:29, Tristan Bierschenk took 98th with a time of 19:47, Eric Carrasco took 117th with a time of 20:08, Sean Dilley took 131st with a time of 20:21, Kolton Duis took 139th with a time of 20:36 and Isaac Bach took 192nd with a time of 21:56 to round out their times.

Canby/Minneota will compete today at Deuel, S.D. at 4:30 p.m.

Marshall

MILACA — The Marshall boys and girls cross country teams also competed at the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, with the boys team placing seventh with a score of 213 and the girls team placing first with a score of 65.

On the girls side, Kate Bucher led the way for the Tigers with a fifth place finish, running the course in 20:27.3 while Natalee Sample took ninth with a time of 20:53.5, Bellamy Sukalski took 17th with a time of 21:21.6 and Miracle Tucker took 18th with a time of 21:23.7. Cameen McFarquhar took 21st with a time of 21:36.9 while Brianna Simpson took 29th with a time of 22:02.4 and Allyson Sample took 33rd with a time of 22:09.8 to round out their times.

On the boys side, Zach Matzner led the way for the Tigers with a fifth place finish, running the course in 17:32.2 while Jenson Meyer took 34th with a time of 18:33.4, Tanner Fales took 44th with a time of 18:46.4 and Zach Leibfried took 57th with a time of 19:03.9.

Landon Wherry took 76th with a time of 19:33.4 while Ashton Schnaser took 110th with a time of 20:20.4 and Chiemeka Nwakama took 117th with a time of 20:35.4 to round out their times.

Marshall will compete next on Thursday in Redwood Falls at 4 p.m.

Volleyball

Hancock tournament

HANCOCK — The Yellow Medicine East volleyball team went 3-0 at the Hancock tournament on Saturday, with the Sting defeating Lac qui Parle Valley 2-0 (25-19, 25-23), Hancock 2-0 (25-18, 25-23) and Hillcrest 2-0 (25-14, 25-23).

Against LQPV, Alli Steffen led the way with 12 total kills while Jadyn Sakry, Ruby Bones and Shelby Mortenson each added four. Yansi Flores and Kayla Nordaune led in digs with seven each while Madison Hinz led in set assists with 21.

Against Hancock, Steffen led the way with 10 kills while Mortenson added four. Steffen led in digs with seven while Nordaune added six and Hinz led in set assists with 14.

Against Hillcrest, Steffen led the way with eight kills while Mortenson, Hinz and Bones each added three. Steffen and Flores led in digs with 11 while Hinz led in set assists with 14.

YME will face Canby on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Eagle Invite

APPLE VALLEY — The Marshall volleyball team wrapped up play with a split at the Eagle Invite on Saturday. The Tigers defeated Class AAA No. 9 Moorhead 2-0 (25-17, 25-17) before falling to Class AAA No. 7 East Ridge 2-1 (26-28, 27-25, 15-11) to finish 2-2 at the tournament.

Paige Andries led the way for the Tigers on Saturday with 20 kills while Logan Sherman added 19 and Jordyn Hilgemann had 18. Mia Schnaible led in digs with 43 while Andries and Sherman led up front with four blocks apiece. Sherman also led in set assists with 38 while Rachel Schwarz had 32.

Marshall was the lone Class AA team in the 16-team field, with all of its competitors being Class AAA teams.

Marshall (13-4) will face New Ulm on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

APPLE VALLEY — The Canby volleyball team went 2-1 at the Class A Showcase tournament on Saturday, with the Lancers defeating Barnesville 2-0 (25-20, 25-23), Fosston 2-1 (23-25, 28-26, 15-13) and falling to Kenyon-Wanamingo 2-1 (22-25, 25-14, 10-15).

Maya Wente led the way for the Lancers with 25 total kills while Brooke Nelson added 19, Gabby Harding had 17 and Charlotte Wright had 15. Cassidy Hunt led in digs with 36 total while Brooke Nelson added 30 and Gabby Harding had 12. Rachel Harding led in set assists with 55 while Paige Nelson added 31 while Wente led in blocks with seven.

Canby will face YME on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Minneota

APPLE VALLEY — The Minneota volleyball team took home first place in the silver division at the Class A showcase tournament on Saturday, defeating RTR 2-0 (25-10, 25-19), Fosston 2-0 (25-14, 25-11) and Kenyon Wanamingo 2-0 (25-16, 25-23).

Natalee Rolbiecki led the way for the Vikings with 54 kills while Abby Hennen added 49, Abby Frie had 21 and Morgan Hennen had 18. Rolbiecki also led in digs with 52 while Morgan Hennen added 47 and Abby Hennen had 42. Ireland Stassen led in set assists with 89 while McKenna Yost had 54.

Minneota will face Lakeview on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Sibley East

tournament

SIBLEY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton volleyball team took first place at the Sibley East tournament on Saturday. The Panthers defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 2-0 (25-14, 25-9), Nicollet 2-0 (25-23, 25-17), Sibley East 2-0 (25-21, 25-17), Springfield 2-0 (25-15, 25-10) and St. Peter 2-0 (25-13, 25-23).

Catherine Wendland and Jadyn Lessman led the way for the Panthers with 33 kills each while Kylie Hensch added 18 and Sheridan Ludeman had 14. Margaret Dolan led in digs with 67 total while Kiarra Danielson added 37 and Maddi Langerock had 23. Langerock also led in set assists with 122 total.

TMB will face RTR on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Lakeview Invite

COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview volleyball team took second at its home tournament on Saturday. The Lakers defeated Montevideo, Benson, BBE and West Lutheran before falling to New London-Spicer.

LeAnn Stensrud led the way for the Lakers with 41 kills while Savanna Louwagie added 35 and Kiana Imes had 22. Sydney Geistfeld led in digs with 40 while Louwagie added 32, Kaitlin Fischer had 31 and Stensrud had 30. Fischer also led in set assists with 124.

Lakeview (14-2) will face Minneota on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Football

MCC 33, MVL 14

NEW ULM — The Murray County Central football team defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 33-14 on Saturday.

Dylan Johnson led the way for the Rebels with 258 rushing yards on 35 carries and a touchdown while Blake Schmitz added 118 passing yards and two touchdowns as well as 30 rushing yards and a score. Aaron Johnson led in receiving with 68 yards on two catches and chipped in a rushing touchdown.

MCC will face New Ulm Cathedral this Friday at 7 p.m.
