PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall cruises past Belle Plaine

BELLE PLAINE — Marshall defeated Belle Plaine 49-0 on Friday night.

After a slow offensive start for both teams, the Marshall offense kicked into gear in the second quarter.

Bryce Paulsen got the scoring started for Marshall with a 4-yard run. It was an all-around night for the senior quarterback, as he threw for 74 yards and a touchdown while adding 62 yards and a score on the ground.

Gabe Raini added 90 yards and two rushing touchdowns in the win.

Marshall’s defense was stout, holding Belle Plaine to under 50 yards. Josh Deines added an interception return for a score. Yahya Black added a sack and two blocked kicks.

Marshall coach Terry Bahlmann was pleased with the overall performance of his team, including the strides made on defense from Week 1 to Week 2.

“I thought we did a lot of good things tonight, especially on defense with holding Belle Plaine to 41 yards of offense,” Bahlmann said. “Take away the two fumbles and I thought we really improved offensively from last week.”

Marshall (2-0) hosts Worthington on Sept. 14.
