SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Mustangs put together a strong two days at Red Raider Open

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s track & field teams completed a busy two days at the Red Raider Open hosted by Northwestern College on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, SMSU’s Angele Prokosch broke her own school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.44m to finish in second place. The mark is also the second best in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this spring.

Rylee Armstrong recorded a fifth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 31.85m.

For the SMSU men’s team on Friday, Josh Behning finished in fifth place in the hammer with a mark of 48.93m.

In Saturday action, Isaiah Nelson won the triple jump with a mark of 13.29m.

Chase Hamilton ran 10:01.06 in the 3,000m steeplechase to finish in third place, while Bashir Aidrus made his outdoor season debut with a personal best time of 4:04.73 in the 1,500 meters to finish in sixth out of 49 runners.

Rebecca Manteuffel recorded a second place finish in the discus with a throw of 44.59m and also placed sixth in the shot put at 12.69m.

Kayla Jansky had a strong run in the 1,500 meters placing eighth out of 45 crossing the finish line with a time of 4:56.97.

Emily Daniels, making her collegiate debut in the 10,000 meters, finished eighth with a time of 40:24.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to action next week with athletes competing at the Drake Relays and the Simpson College Invite this Thursday through Saturday.
