PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: WWG, MCC move on, TMB falls in quarterfinal round

WORTHINGTON – The No. 2 seed Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team defeated No. 7 Hills-Beaver Creek 95-74 in the Section 3A quarterfinals on Saturday.

Tyson Elzenga led the way for the Chargers with 31 points while Anthony Ross added 24 and Kyle Kuehl had 14.

WWG (24-3) will face No. 3 Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Worthington.

WORTHINGTON – The No. 4 Murray County Central boys basketball team held on to defeat No. 5 Red Rock Central 46-40 in the Section 3A quarterfinals on Saturday.

Tyler Groves led the way for the Rebels with 15 points while Spencer Wajer added nine and Justin Benda had six. Benda led the way in rebounds with eight while Wajer led in steals with two.

Brady Rasmussen led the way for the Falcons with 20 points while Noah Stavness added nine and Spencer Halland had seven. Halland led in rebounds with five while Rasmussen and Halland led in assists with four each.

RRC ends its season with a 15-11 record. MCC (16-8) will face No. 1 seed Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the semifinals on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Worthington.

WORTHINGTON – The No. 8 seed Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday with a 55-39 loss to No. 1 Fairmont.

Fritz Landherr led the way for the Panthers with 12 points while Moses Dolan added nine and Lucas Gervais had eight. Matt Timmerman and Gervais led in rebounds with four each while Landherr led in assists with three.

TMB ends its season with a 5-21 record.
