PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys hockey blanks Redwood Valley

REDWOOD FALLS — Marshall defeated Redwood Valley 11-0 on Tuesday.

Marshall jumped out to a 5-0 lead, just seven minutes into the first period.

The offense was led by Chase VanDeVere, who scored four goals in the win.

Dominik Caspers got the win, recording 23 saves in the shutout.

“Dom played well in the net,” Marshall coach Michael Weiss said. “He made all of the saves he should make and he didn’t give them any second-chance opportunities.

Marshall hosts Waseca on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Canby 66, DB 57

DAWSON — Canby defeated Dawson-Boyd 66-57 on Tuesday.

Norah King led Canby with 21 points, followed by Alyssa Beckius with 18 points.

Alex Sather scored 23 points to lead Dawson-Boyd.

Canby (5-11) hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Friday. Dawson-Boyd (5-12) hosts Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Thursday.

Marshall got some separation in the first half, thanks to an 11-0 run.

“(Making runs) was important for our team,” Marshall coach Dan Westby said. “We were able to generate points with our defensive pressure because our press was effective.

Jordynn Hilgemann led all scorers with 24 points.

Kaia Sueker added 14 points and five assists in the win.

Marshall (14-4, 8-0 Big South) travels to Luverne on Thursday.

“It’s our second conference game this week,” Westby said. “We’re 8-0 in conference, and we certainly want to keep that slate clean.”

FULDA – The Murray County Central Rebels used a strong first half to defeat the Fulda Raiders 68-53 on Tuesday.

Tyler Groves led the Rebels with 18 points. Groves also grabbed seven rebounds. Nate Everson points. Spencer Wajer scored 13 points and dished out five assists.

With the win the Rebels improved to 9-4. They’ll be back in action on Friday against Heron-Lake Okabena.

HANCOCK – The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks were tripped up by Hancock on Monday, 61-58.

Avery Bartunek led the way for the Blackjacks with 17 points. The sophomore also grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists.

Alex Sather recorded a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Mary Bothun scored 11 points.
