Support year-round E15

To the editor: I urge everyone to make the sensible decision to support year-round E15. Supporting E15 would be especially meaningful now, as corn farmers face the most dire economic conditions they’ve seen this century. As MCGA has noted for years, ensuring permanent year-round E15 is one of the most meaningful steps Congress could take to bolster family corn farms and rural economies. Unfortunately, instead of passing legislation for a nationwide, year-round E15 fix, lawmakers established a new E15 Rural Domestic Energy Council and tasked it with developing legislative solutions ...

SAVE Act ensures voting integrity

To the editor: Democrats, what are you afraid of? The SAVE act all ready passed in the House of Representatives and is heading for the Senate. The SAVE act is a move to ensure voting integrity and requires a valid I.D. Chuck Schumer says all his fellow sheep will vote no. That would include our esteemed senatorial delegation; Amy (Klobuchar) and Tina Smith). Ironically, Somalia; requires voter I.D. Think about that for a minute. As a country, shouldn’t we have higher standards than we currently have? Next time you buy alcohol, get a driver’s license, fishing license, airline ...

Safeguard fishing by strengthening laws

To the editor: In response to Rep. Chris Swedzinski’s Feb 7, 2026 fishing regulation proposal article: The best way to improve the quality of fishing in our local lakes is to improve the quality of our water. This will have a much greater effect than increasing the number of lines we can put in the water or changing the species limits. Almost every summer our local prairie lakes have heavy blue-green algae blooms. These algae blooms are ugly, they stink, and they can be toxic to fish, dogs, and humans. These algae blooms dramatically reduce the number of days we can spend on the ...

What about the victims of abortion?

To the editor: Jan. 22 marked the 53rd anniversary of Roe versus Wade which gave the medical community the power to legally perform abortions. The body count is now over 65 million since 1973. Why is it that the press will flood us with pictures and verbiage of ICE activities, while at the same time, doing all they can to stifle images and information regarding what happens to children in the abortion clinic? I’m not saying media should not cover ICE, just questioning why the innocent children get no press. Phil Drietz Delhi

Winter Olympics reflect the best in sports and a hope for peace

Nothing compares to the Olympics when it comes to promoting the best in sports competition and peaceful international relations. The Winter Olympics kicked off this week in the mountains of northern Italy. We’ll have two weeks of televised skiing, ice skating, sledding, hockey, curling and other winter pastimes. In Minnesota the Winter Games are just as popular as the Summer Games. We are well represented on the United States Olympic roster. Hopefully our athletes will come home with a sizable set of medals. I have Winter Olympics heroes from the Games of my younger days. ...

Lady Justice must be shedding tears

To the editor: “The truth is that all men (and women) having power ought to be mistrusted.” That quote was not of recent origin, but came from James Madison, who is also known as the Father of our Constitution. “The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of ...
