Not very noble times

To the editor: In his inspiring acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize Martin Luther King said, “ I think Alfred Nobel would know what I mean when I say that I accept this award in the spirit of a curator of some precious heirloom which he holds in trust for its true owners — all those to whom beauty is truth and truth beauty — and in whose eyes the beauty of genuine brotherhood and peace is more precious than diamonds or silver or gold.” Such a contrast to today’s ignoble grabber. To the editor: When I was in high school and college, I remember reading about the KGB breaking into the homes of Russian families in the middle of the night, guns drawn, ransacking possessions, and terrorizing families. I remember being horrified when I read that a parent could be violently dragged off by armed KGB officers while the children of that parent screamed and cried. To the editor: Donald Trump ran for president of the U.S. saying he was not going to get the U.S. into anymore endless wars. In 2025 alone, U.S. military forces have carried out 622 air and drone strikes across seven countries, including Syria, Yemen, Nigeria, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan. Now the latest, an unprovoked attack against Venezuela, which he authorized the kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife.
