Use non-residential place to turnaround

To the editor: This is being written to raise awareness to a problem we have had for along time. (We are guessing there are others who have the same problem). Our frustration lies with the drivers using the end of our Second Chance Ranch driveway, which is short, off Highway 59 North, as a turnaround spot. Why is this a problem? Because in our case we have two acreage dogs who go down to check out vehicles that do this. With traffic going 60 plus mph past our driveway, this is a very dangerous for our beloved dogs. Human life should be more important

To the editor: An author writes a book with the hope that it will be published — and the author’s name will be on the cover. An artist paints because he or she wants to share a picture or an impression of something; the artist’s name or initials are on the finished work. It is the same with the work of a potter; marks are put in the clay identifying whose work the object is. Legislatures need to protect Medicare

To the editor: July 30 marks the 57 th anniversary of Medicare. Before Medicare less than half of our nation’s seniors had health insurance, but now 55.5 million people older than 65 plus over 8 million people living with disabilities and more than 1 in 5 living in Goodhue County 65 and older have the health coverage they need. Remember retired seniors 65 and older paid into the Medicare fund every payday during their working years. Medicare belongs to them. Still no answers about day care shortage

To the editor: It’s been over a year since the Marshall School Board closed the Marshall Area Child Care Daycare Center. Well surprise, surprise there is still a shortage of daycare spots in the Marshall area. No new day care facility has opened in the MACC space. In fact when my wife called all of the local day care centers about a space for a newborn we were told the soonest we could get a spot would be 16 months away — 16 months. We had a spot secured at MACC, as well as spaces for our other children under the age of 5. And, now I am hearing that the school district is going ...
