To the editor: As a career teacher and lifelong historian, I felt I had to respond to Jim Muchlinski’s July 16 editorial about the significance of Jan. 6, 2021. If you or your family members lived through World War II, or if 9/11 touched you or your loved ones, it is disrespectful and lacks reality to equate those events to January 6th. The violence, death and injuries of Jan. 6 do not even begin to compare to the Washington, D.C. Bonus Army Riots of 1932 and 1933. Congress must address rising energy costs

To the editor: Rural Americans have been hit hard by our rising energy costs; we rely on cars to get from place to place and in southwestern Minnesota those places can be pretty far apart. While many people are feeling the pinch over filling up the family car, our farmers are struggling with huge bills for fertilizer and fuel for tractors and other equipment. There are times when I wonder which is worse, the current crop of political hacks in our government or the people that continue to vote for and support them? Or is it, perhaps, the media that filters everything we hear, see and read? When it comes right down to it, we have to take a long hard look at ourselves because we the people have made it possible for all of it. What happened to Dairy Month?

To the editor: As a dairy farmer, I am saddened that so little is said or celebrated anymore about June being Dairy Month. In my America, it was recognized as an enjoyable time for us and for the consumer with acknowledgment to the dairy industry and diary specials for the consumer. A bit of relaxation for the dairy farmer at a beautiful time of the year to enjoy the fruits of our labor and spread the word of the wholesomeness of our products with the public.
