To the editor: The 9-13-2024 “What’s wrong with American schools?” by Laura Hollis, rightly implies that “Declining academic performance, shrinking numbers of Americans qualified to enter technical fields, violence and truancy” problems need to be fixed. But it doesn’t mention the problem of parents who will not discipline their children or help them with homework; just send them off to school and let the teachers struggle with disruptive students. To the editor: The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, the largest public safety association in Minnesota, is proud to endorse Rep. Chris Swedzinski. Trump tariffs impact on agriculture

To the editor: According to an article in the Business Section of the Oct. 3 Star-Tribune, North Dakota State University (NDSU) analyzed the direct impact of Donald Trump’s tariff proposals and found they would be devastating for Midwestern farmers. If his tariffs target China (as he has repeatedly promised) soybean exports for the US could drop as much as 67% — more than $15 billion. Farmers in Minnesota alone could see soybean exports fall by $1.3 billion and corn exports fall by $400 million. Such losses would obviously have ripple effects across the entire rural economy. ...

To the editor: The Independent recently published two letters that followed a common template. They each began by admitting that Donald Trump is a flawed candidate and continued with a list of sixteen bullet points in the same order with the same key phrases, beginning with the first amendment. With the bullet points the authors tried but failed to name issues that support voting for Trump despite his many shortcomings. Don’t let single issues prevent unity

To the editor: Will there be unity instead of division for conservative voters? How many of these voters will sit out this election because of a one issue point of view that is not perfectly aligned with what they want? Will this then allow a continuation of radical Democrat policies to limit/cancel our freedom of speech, take away our right to defend ourselves against the obvious increase in crime/violence that is all around us but is ignored by the mainstream media?
