Mystery furniture left in MHS parking lot
MARSHALL — There were some unexpected arrivals in the Marshall High School parking lot on Friday morning: a pair of abandoned couches and a stove. While the furniture got some humorous reactions on social media, MHS Principal Brian Jones said it’s not certain why it was left in the parking lot.
“We don’t know if it was a senior prank,” Jones said. “It could have been someone who was moving out and didn’t know what to do with their stuff.”
There was spray paint on the stove, but it didn’t say anything that seemed connected with the class of 2026, he said.
Jones said he was notified of the abandoned furniture early Friday morning. After reviewing security footage from the parking lot, Jones said it looked like the couches and stove were brought in by a white truck sometime around 10:15 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
“We don’t know the whole story,” he said.
In a Facebook post Friday afternoon, Marshall Public Schools shared some of the humor of the situation, stating “The maintenance department would like to remind everyone that ‘open concept living’ is not a part of the school improvement plan.”
On a more serious level, Jones said, “Hopefully it doesn’t happen again.” There have been times in the past when unauthorized people have used school dumpsters to dispose of their own trash, he said. Jones said having items like furniture left on school property wasn’t something the school wanted, either.
