Hennen gets GOP nod for House 15A
Brad Hennen received the Republican endorsement for Minnesota state House District 15A, after a district convention in Cottonwood Monday evening.
COTTONWOOD — Area delegates endorsed rural Ghent resident Brad Hennen as a Republican candidate for the Minnesota state House of Representatives, at their House District 15A convention in Cottonwood on Monday evening.
“I’m very grateful to all the delegates who supported me,” Hennen said Tuesday.
He said he now plans to focus on reaching out to area residents and hearing their input and concerns for the state Legislature.
Hennen was one of four Republican candidates running in District 15A, after current Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, said he would not seek re-election. Hennen, Hunter McFall of Granite Falls, David Sturrock of Marshall and Brian Mock of Lynd all announced candidacy after Swedzinski’s decision not to run again.
Democratic candidate Nathan Schmig, of Minneota, received the DFL endorsement for House District 15A earlier this spring, at the DFL’s District 15 convention.
Minnesota House District 15A covers Lac qui Parle, Yellow Medicine and Lyon Counties, and part of Chippewa County.
Hennen said a total of 137 delegates took part in the District 15A Republican convention. He received the endorsement after three rounds of ballots.
In a video posted by Lyon County Republicans on Facebook, Hennen gave some brief comments to delegates.
“I am honored, I remain humble, and I’m ready to get to work,” Hennen said. He also thanked the other candidates for bringing forward issues important to their supporters. “I look forward to working together to strengthen our message and unite our efforts.”
