MARSHALL — The Marshall Public School board was back with another session of Tiger Spotlight for the month of April at Monday’s school board meeting, highlighting and showcasing the success of students across the district.

Tiger Spotlight gives staff and faculty from each school site the opportunity to nominate a student of the month to receive recognition for their hard work and success.

Availea Brazell was selected as Park Side Elementary’s student of the month, nominated by Jamie Brigger.

“Availea has worked so hard this year in the area of writing, even though writing is hard for her, and it is something she does not always love to do. Availea has shown perseverance and determination each and every day which has allowed her to show great growth in her skills,” Brigger said. “When mistakes happen, as they often do in writing, she gives a smile and gets right back to her writing job. Availea shines bright each and every day as she learns more and more writing skills. Her teacher and classmates are very proud of her.”

For Southview Elementary, Tara Brouwer nomainted Vivienne Kimman for the Tiger Spotlight.

“Viviene is truly a proud Marshall Tiger, and I can always count on her. Without question, Vivi works hard, participates with no hesitation and understands her direction. She knows where she is going and certainly knows how to get there,” Brouwer said. “She is intelligent, creative, kindhearted and always willing to help out — Whenever, wherever. She is not afraid to face any challenge head on. Viviene is such a pleasure to have in class, and I am going to have a hard time letting her go at the end of this school year.”

Paula Basilia Cruz received the honor for Marshall Middle School, nominated by Julie Bunt.

“Paula Basilia Cruz is being nominated for recognition because she consistently exemplifies the very best qualities of our school community. She is an extremely hard-working student who takes great pride in completing her work thoughtfully and on time. Paula approaches her learning with determination and a positive attitude,” Bunt said. “Beyond academics, Paula stands out for her kindness and character. She is respectful and supportive toward staff and peers alike, always willing to offer help or encouragement to others. Paula is the kind of student who may not seek the spotlight, but her quiet leadership, helpful nature, and strong work ethic make a meaningful impact every day.”

The high school’s Tiger Spotlight student of the month is Kaylee Rudolph, nominated by Bessie Skalicky and Mitchell Maxwell.

“Kaylee is exceedingly kind and consistently respectful to both peers and adults. She approaches her learning with a positive attitude, even when faced with challenging material, and demonstrates resilience and determination in everything she does,” Skalicky and Maxwell said. “Kaylee is a hard worker who remains actively engaged in class, contributing thoughtfully and taking responsibility for her own growth. Her maturity, work ethic and compassion make her a valued member of our school community, and a student truly deserving of recognition as the Marshall High School Student of the Month.”

Riley Lanners for the Area Learning Center (ALC) received the recognition, selected by Shannon Gorter.

“Riley is a kind, intelligent, and responsible young man. Since joining us at the ALC, he has consistently demonstrated an eagerness to learn and a readiness to put in the necessary work to graduate. He approaches each day with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude in the classroom,” Gorter said. “He contributes to class discussions and offers a strong point of view. He finishes his assignments with accuracy and on time. He contributes to the positive atmosphere we like to maintain at our school as he treats all staff and students with respect and kindness. He is a humble kid with many admirable qualities and we have enjoyed getting to know Riley.”

The school board will continue to host a Tiger Spotlight session through the remainder of the school year.
