SMSU student government election results announced

Last week the Student Association held a campus-wide election, in which all students were able to participate. The purpose of this election was to determine who would be serving in the Student Association for the 2023-24 academic year as an executive member or a senator. The polls opened on Monday, April 17 and closed Wednesday, April 19. This year’s election marked an increase in participation, not only from the voting side but the applications for candidacy. Walker receives Larry Schnoor District IV Distinguished Service Award SMSU Professor Julie Walker, who is an assistant professor of Communication Studies and assistant director of forensics, was recently named the winner of the Larry Schnoor District IV Distinguished Service Award for contributions to the American Forensics Association. On Thursday, April 27, the 2023 M4L Day (Mustangs 4 Life Day) will bring together alumni, friends, students, parents, faculty, and staff for Southwest Minnesota State University’s second annual Day of Giving. This is a 24-hour online fundraising event full of opportunities to show Mustang Pride for all areas on campus. Gifts made online will unlock bonuses to supported funds based on the all-day, hourly, and time-sensitive challenges. Murray Co. 4-H’er Sophia Gaul to attend National 4-H Conference

On April 14-19, more than 200 youth from across the United States and U.S. territories will participate in the National 4-H Conference. The conference engages youth in developing a briefing to a federal agency on an issue of interest for both the youth and the agency. Sophia Gaul is one of seven Minnesota 4-H youth leaders who will attend this year’s event. The youth were competitively selected based on past leadership through 4-H and their interest in growing their skills for future community leadership.
