MHS speech team competes at Orono

The Marshall High School speech team competed in the first tournament of the season at Orono High School on Saturday. The Marshall team placed 6th out of 19 schools, with Prior Lake winning 1st.

Eight varsity speakers placed in the top six in their respective categories: Sophia Gaul and Sydney Larson, 2nd and 3rd in extemporaneous speaking; Naomi Schroeder, 2nd in dramatic interpretation; Mary Lanoue, 5th in humorous; Lydia Weverka and Carter Gehrke, 5th in dramatic duo, and Mary Lanoue and Naomi Schroeder, 6th in dramatic duo. Other team members who received honors for placing in the next-in or merit finals were Connor Martinson, 1st in humorous; Bri Runchey Smalley, 6th in discussion, Jack Brigger, 5th in oratory; Grace Schroeder, 4th in dramatic interpretation; Kaitlyn Soupir, 4th in novice creative expression; Xavier Rabaey, 3rd in novice oratory. Receiving honorable mention were Jack Gunn and Carter Gehrke in oratory.
