Marshall speech team competes in Forest Lake, Luverne

The Marshall Tiger varsity speech team finished 6th out of 32 teams at the Forest Lake Speech Tournament last Saturday. Leading the way for the Tigers was senior Jack Pedersen who finished 2nd overall in humorous. Senior Isaiah Schroeder also earned high honors by advancing into final rounds in all three of his events. The Tiger C-squad competed at Luverne on Saturday. Ninth-graders Nenna Onyeaghala and Maddy Van Keulen led the way by placing 3rd in informative and 4th in drama respectively for the Tigers.

SMSU ranked No. 1 in Nation as Military Friendly School Southwest Minnesota State University’s commitment to veterans and their families has been rewarded with a No. 1 national ranking by Military Friendly School. VFW art contest open to students The local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 742 of Marshall Auxiliary is offering to eligible students in the area the chance to enter the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. Students in grade 9-12 who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program are eligible, but should not be over the age of 18 at the time of entry. Regional Spelling Bee results announced

The SWWC Service Cooperative’s Regional Spelling Bee was Feb. 4 at the Redwood Area Community Center in Redwood Falls. Thirty-two students from 27 school districts, who won at their local level, came together to compete for the top four places that advance to the Multi-Region State Spelling Bee. Scores from the written and oral rounds were combined in order to determine the top 15 students who compete in the afternoon spelldown.
