Strong 3-point shooting lifts Panthers past Saints, 86-57

KERKHOVEN — Red-hot shooting from beyond the arc set the table for a win for the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team on Tuesday night. The Panthers knocked down 17 of their 37 3-point attempts, putting together a 46% clip to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg’s 24% while defeating the Fighting Saints 86-57.

Trevor Smith led the charge, converting five of his 10 attempts from long range, while Griffin Zick and Alex Munson each knocked down four of their seven attempts.

Smith finished the night with a team-high 27 points while Munson and Zick tallied 19 and 18 respectively. Zick also grabbed 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double while Munson added another eight rebounds.

Munson’s three assists tied him with Smith for second on the team to Noah Knakmuhs’ five. Knakmuhs turned the ball over just once and came away with five steals.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton improves to 10-3 with the win and will next compete when it goes on the road to face Red Rock Central (2-9) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

LQPV 73, Lakeview 65

MADISON — The Lac qui Parle Valley Eagles’ offense was too much for the Lakeview boys basketball team to handle on Tuesday as the Lakers fell 73-65.

Braylon Breyfogle did his best to keep Lakeview in the game offensively, finishing the night with a team-leading 20 points. Trevor Tusberg and Dylan Caron contributed another 10 and 9 respectively.

Lakeview falls to 6-8 with the loss. Having missed the opportunity to get back to .500, Lakeview will look to find its rhythm again when it hosts MACCRAY (4-9) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

RTR 86, RRC 51

TYLER — Henry Stavens’ scoring and rebounding efforts still left the Red Rock Central boys basketball team shy of a win on Tuesday night as the Falcons fell 86-51 against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.

Henry Stavnes led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds while Abe Stavnes and Jordan Therkilsen added another 11 and 7 respectively.

RRC falls to 2-9 on the season and will look to avoid its third consecutive loss when it hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (10-3) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

RTR improves to 10-2 and will aim to pick up its seventh consecutive win when it hosts Adrian-Ellsworth (3-9) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

WWG 72, MLAC 44

WESTBROOK — Hudson Jenniges’ scoring eruption helped the Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team pull away early for a 72-44 win over Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey on Tuesday night.

Jenniges scored a game-high 27 points, with 12 coming in the first half and 15 coming in the second half. None of his points came from the free-throw line and 12 of his 13 field goals were from inside the 3-point arc.

Drew Swanson also caught fire after halftime, scoring 15 of his 17 points after the break. Jackson Jenniges and Neil Kuehl finished in double figures with 14 and 10 points respectively.

WWG led 33-22 at halftime and only got stronger from there.

WWG improves to 9-3 with the win and will next head to Slayton to take on Murray County Central (8-4) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Ortonville 82, YME 67 

ORTONVILLE — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team suffered its fifth straight loss Tuesday night at Ortonville, falling 82-67. 

The Sting were down by 15 at halftime, and although both teams scored 37 through the second, it was too much to fully overcome. 

Wakinyan GreyCloud led YME with 24 points to his six rebounds. Gavin Torvik had a team-high seven boards. 

Jacob Peterson followed with 13 points, going 3 for 6 at the arc. Gunnar Fagen followed with 12. 

The Sting struggled with its 3-point shooting, going 7 for 25. It shot 38% overall from the field. Ortonville shot 52% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line. 

YME falls to 2-10 on the season, and will next return home to host Central Minnesota Christian (8-3) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. 

SWMC 76, MCC 62 

EDGERTON — The Murray County Central boys basketball team tried to fight out of a 14-point halftime deficit, but came up short and fell to Southwest Minnesota Christian 76-62 Tuesday evening. 

Gavin Gillette and Hudson Schryvers led the Rebels with 20 and 16 points respectively. Maxwell Miller followed with 11, and made three 3-pointers. 

Gillette and Wyatt Thompson shared a team-high four rebounds. 

MCC shot 43% from the field, 29% from the three going 7 for 24 and 64% from the charity stripe, making 9 of 14 attempts. 

The loss marks two straight for MCC, who move to 8-4 on the season. It will look to get back on track when it returns home to host Westbrook-Walnut Grove (9-3) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. 

Dawson-Boyd 100, RCW 45 

DAWSON — The Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team broke 100 points for the second time this season with a 100-45 win over Renville County West Tuesday evening at home. Brayson Boike finished with a triple-double performance of 30 points, 10 assists and 17 rebounds. 

Gunner Liebl finished with 23 points and shot a team-high 68% from the field, going 11 of 16. 

The Blackjacks collected 47 total rebounds on the night along with 13 steals to power the win. They also built up a 58-28 lead by halftime, to put the game out of reach early on. 

Dawson-Boyd improves to 10-2 on the season, winning now four in a row, and will next travel to Colman-Egan Area School in South Dakota on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
