DB girls win Ortonville Invite, boys take 2nd

ORTONVILLE — The Dawson-Boyd girls golf team edged past Lac qui Parle Valley by one stroke on Thursday at Ortonville Municipal Golf Course to claim first place in the five-team tournament. The boys team also competed, finishing in second place.

On the girls’ side, Dawson-Boyd put together a team score of 187 while LQPV finished at 188. Community Christian placed third at 227 while MACCRAY and Ortonville did not compile a team score.

Sophomore Alyssa Swedzinski led the pack of 21 with a low round of 42, one stroke ahead of runner-up Molly Halvorson of LQPV. Lindsey Lund took home the bronze with a 43. 

Swedzinski finished her round with a birdie on hole 9 and pars on holes 3, 5 and 8 while Lund had a birdie on hole 3 and a pair of pars on holes 5 and 6.

Eighth graders Kylar Hjelmeland and Claire Stratmoen rounded out the Blackjacks’ scorers with a 50 to place sixth and a 53 to take 10th.

On the boys’ side, Dawson-Boyd compiled a team score of 174, three strokes back of Central Minnesota Christian. LQPV took third at 180, Community Christian finished fourth at 187 and Ortonville and MACCRAY rounded out the pack in fifth and sixth. 

Drew Hjelmeland finished as the individual runner-up, tying with LQPV’s Kaidyn Stender at 40 strokes. Hjelmeland birdied hole 3.

LQPV’s Carson Besonen won the tournament with an individual score of 38.

Sophomore Evan Mork and freshman Carson Stratmoen tied for sixth in the tournament at 43 strokes for the Blackjack. Freshman Evan Menning also carded a 48 to place 14th in the field of 33. 

Dawson-Boyd will next compete at the Marshall Class A Invitational. the boys teams will play on Monday at 1 p.m. while the girls will play Tuesday at the same time.

TMB Invite

TRACY — Alex Munson placed third in the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys golf team’s home triangular against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City and Windom Area on Thursday night. Windom won the meet with a team score of 187 while ACGC took second at 197. TMB did not have enough players to record a team score.

Munson parred the first hole of the day and picked up another pair of pars on holes six and seven. Windom’s Carter Rossow and Eli Lund took the top two spots at 41 and 43 respectively.

None of the girls teams had sufficient players to record a team score. Taylor Munson led the girls with an individual score of 58, including a par on hole 6, while Piper Schulte and Madelyn Elsen placed sixth and seventh at 71 and 73 respectively.

TMB will head to Granite Run Golf Course today at 4:30 for a Camden South meet.

Fulda meet

FULDA — The Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove golf team hosted Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton and Murray County Central for a tournament at Town & County Golf Club on Sunday. SWC/E won the boys side, followed by HLOF/WWG and MCC, while MCC won the girls side as the only qualifying team.

On the girls side, MCC carded a team score of 212, claiming each of the top four places.

Ava Johnson led the pack with an individual score of 49 followed closely by Rachael Huso at 51. Sophomore Lizzie Daniels and eighth grader Natalie Einck rounded out the pack at 55 and 57 respectively.

Marenna Bang led the Coyotes with an individual score of 61.

On the boys side, SWC/E carded a team score of 184, edging out HLOF/WWG by four strokes. MCC finished third at 214.

HLOF/WWG’s Nathan Kueny had the low score on the day at 41. Still, SWC/E took the second, third and fourth spots to pull ahead in the battle.

Brady Madison and Neil Kuehl each carded a 48 to tie for fifth in the tournament while Mason Ommen rounded out the Coyotes’ scorers in eighth place at 51.

Kaden Landsman had the lowest score of the day for the Rebels with a 50.

MCC will next compete at the Marshall Class A Invitational at Marshall Golf Club. The boys will compete on Monday at 1 p.m. while the girls will take to the course on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
