Marshall falls short in Moorhead
Tiger boys lose 1-0 on the road
MOORHEAD — Despite generating some offensive opportunities, the Marshall boys soccer team was unable to steal a road win against Moorhead on Tuesday night. The Tigers finished with 12 shots on goal but couldn’t find the back of the net in the 1-0 loss.
Roberto Garcia Lopez had 17 saves on the night for Marshall. The one goal he allowed came halfway through the first half when the Marshall defensive line missed the ball and a 50-50 ball drifted toward the top of the box. Garcia Lopez lost the ball in the sun, Marshall head coach Tony Correa said, and the Moorhead attacker beat him to the ball and poked it through for the go-ahead goal.
Correa added that the mistake is on the team as a whole, not just on the keeper, and that he believes the team could have stolen a win if they had capitalized on some opportunities earlier.
The Tigers had an opportunity to knot the game in the final minute but the would-be equalizer was aimed right at the Moorhead keeper and Marshall fell short.
Correa gave credit to Moorhead, saying that they’re a good team with fast attackers that knew how to shoot, and that he believes playing a quality game against a Class AAA opponent will be good for his team’s development
Marshall (6-3) will look to bounce back at home against Southwest Christian on Thursday.
