YME 6, LQPV 0

GRANITE FALLS — Bayli Sneller pitched a complete-game shutout with 13 strikeouts while also going 2 for 2 at the plate to help lead the Yellow Medicine East softball team to a 6-0 win over Lac qui Parle Valley Tuesday night.

The Sting got right to work and scored four of its runs in the first inning.

Kourtney Peterson got the momentum going for YME, and scored the first run on an Alana Almich RBI single to left field. Peterson first got on base with a line drive to center field.

Brianna Nelson then scored on a wild pitch, and Sneller took home following a Chasity Schmitz sacrifice ground-out. Nelson had a base hit while Sneller walked to reach base.

Almich scored the final run of the inning with a double to left field from Emma Keller to put the Sting up 4-0.

The next three complete innings were scoreless between both teams, until YME brought in one more run in each the fifth and sixth innings to close the night.

Keller scored on an error by LQPV’s catcher, while Sneller scored the final run in the sixth on a passed ball.

Keller and Almich each went 2 for 4 at the plate as well.

Along with her 13 strikeouts, Sneller allowed just three hits and two walks on the night.

TRACY — Following the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton softball team’s first mercy-rule win of the day, the Knights did much of the same as they traveled over to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton for their second game of the night and came away with a 14-1 win on Tuesday.

After hitting a two-run homer in the Knights first game against Murray County Central, she was then intentionally walked four times by the Panthers.

But, there were plenty of big hits and offense to go around for the Knights, who scored at least two runs in every inning.

Kynsi VanderPlaats had the biggest hit of the game with a triple and a team-high three RBIs, while Paisley Thooft and Jaida Fricke each had a double in the win as well.

Although neither team committed an error, RTR had a sizable 12-5 hitting advantage over TMB.

RTR got off to a fast start with four runs in the first inning, sparked by VanderPlaats triple on a fly ball to right field to clear the bases and send Baartman, Joee Thooft and Fricke all home.

Baartman was intentionally walked, while Fricke had a base hit and Joee Thooft was courtesy running for Grace DeVries following a walk.

VanderPlaats then scored with the help of a Taylin Thooft RBI single for a Knights’ 4-0 lead.

RTR continued the same tempo as the game went on, continuing to run in scores while holding TMB off defensively.

The Knights scored twice more in the fifth inning to reach mercy-rule, between Jenna Lovre scoring on a wild pitch and Taylin Thooft with a Daryssa Cruz RBI single.

TMB scored its run in the bottom of the third inning, with Bella Martinez running in off a Piper Freeburg infield sacrifice fly.

RTR (5-6) will look to keep its momentum going when it hits the road to Adrian on Thursday, also at 4:30 p.m.

TMB (5-4) will hit the road over to Lac qui Parle Valley on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

TRACY — Gretchen Lanoue hit a home run, along with pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts, to help lead the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton softball team to a 10-2 win over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Tuesday night. It was the first of two games the Panthers had slated for Tuesday, who took on Russell-Tyler-Ruthton after.

Lanoue and Melaina Ankrum each had a triple in the win as well, while Avery Torgeson and Piper Freeburg each had a double as well.

Lanoue went 3 for 4 at the plate with a team-high three runs, and Alli Dolan went a perfect 4 for 4 along with two runs.

TMB scored three runs in each the second, third and fifth innings, and capped off the win with one more in the sixth to end the game an inning early.

Lanoue hit her home run as a leadoff in the bottom of the fifth inning that put the Panthers ahead 7-1.

Dolan also scored shortly after on a Freeburg hit, and Freeburg then quickly found her way to home plate on a Torgeson RBI single.

Melaina Ankrum accounted for the Panthers’ final run of the day in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a Dolan RBI off a ground ball to center field. Ankrum initially reached base on a line drive to center field.

KMS scored its two runs with one each in the top of the fourth and sixth.

TMB finished with a big 16-7 hitting advantage over KMS.

MINNEOTA — Keeping up much of the same pace from the first game, the Minneota/Canby softball team swept Lakeview Tuesday night following a 10-0 mercy-rule win in the second of a double header. Madison Hennen had a big game with a homerun while also pitching a complete game with seven strikeouts.

Following a scoreless opening inning between both teams, Minneota/Canby rattled off a trio of runs in the second inning, and took control with a five-run fourth inning.

In the fourth, the Vikings got the bases loaded between a pair of singles and an Emily Walker hit by pitch.

Winifred Swedzinski got the rally started after scoring on a passed ball, while Walker and Gretta Buysse followed behind and both scored on a Courtney Antony two-run RBI single. Antony then scored the final run of the inning for a Vikings’ 8-0 lead on an Izabelle Hulzebos sacrifice pop fly.

Hennen ended the game in the sixth inning in thrilling fashion, hitting a two-run homer over the left-field fence to score Allison VanWatermuelen as well. WABASSO — After dropping the first game of its Tuesday doubleheader, the Wabasso softball team put together a valiant effort with its pitching and defense in the second game against New Ulm Cathedral. Yet, a lack of production in the batter’s box left the Rabbits with a 1-0 loss.

Aylah Jenniges limited the Greyhounds to three hits with no walks in her six-inning outing, striking out three batters.

DAWSON — An early offensive explosion wasn’t enough to lift the Dawson-Boyd softball team to victory Tuesday night, falling 7-3 to Renville County West in Camden Conference play.

The Jaguars scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but the Blackjacks answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Macy Moen hit a leadoff single, stole her way to third and scored on a wild pitch to put Dawson-Boyd on the board, Shay Bothun walked before scoring the tying run on an Alivia Estling double, and Estling scored a go-ahead run on another wild pitch.

Yet, Dawson-Boyd’s offense faltered from there as RCW kept attacking. The Jaguars scored the tying run in the top of the second, and four more runs in the final innings resulted in a Dawson-Boyd loss.

Bothun was the lone Blackjack to reach base multiple times on the day, finishing with a single and a pair of walks. She also pitched all seven innings, giving up six earned runs on 16 hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.
