STOLTZMAN EARNS NSIC SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
•Southwest Minnesota State’s Bri Stoltzman earned NSIC South Division Player of the Week honors, announced on Monday afternoon. This is the first time Stoltzman has received this award and is the first Mustang to earn the award since Meleah Reinhart on Nov. 15, 2021.
•Stoltzman, a 5-foot-8, junior guard from Mankato, Minn., helped the Mustangs go 3-0 on the week, including wins against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. She filled up the stat sheet for SMSU, averaging 15.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 3.3 steals per game on the week, all team-highs.
•Stoltzman had a career-high in points (21), rebounds (10), and assists (5) on Thursday against Michigan Tech, and followed it up with 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals on Saturday against Northern Michigan. She shot 54 percent (20 of 37) from the field on the week and recorded a 3.50 assist to turnover ratio.
LAST TIME OUT
•Bri Stoltzman had a career-night, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds en route to her first career double-double, and Hannah Parsley added a career-high 18 points as the Southwest Minnesota State women’s basketball team earned an impressive home victory, defeating Michigan Tech 81-69 on Thursday afternoon inside the R/A Facility.
•The Mustangs had four in double figures, with Madison Gehloff and Sam Wall scoring 11 points apiece. Stoltzman led the way with a career-best five assists as well, with Parsley adding three and Jenna Borchers, Payton Blandin, and Audrey Swanson each dishing a pair of assists. Parsley finished the game with six rebounds, while Borchers grabbed four and Gehloff added three.
•The Mustangs finished the game shooting 43.5 percent (30 of 69), and won the game on the defensive end, forcing 17 turnovers while only giving it away eight times, and outscored the Huskies 19-9 off turnovers and 21-8 on the fast break.
•Borchers scored a season-high 25 points, becoming the 23rd player in program history to score over 1,000 points, to help the Southwest Minnesota State women’s basketball team to an 86-74 victory over Northern Michigan on Saturday afternoon inside the R/A Facility.
•Borchers, who came into the day with 982 career points, drilled three pointer with 8:32 left in the fourth quarter to give her 18 points on the night and giving her the milestone. She finished the day shooting 5 of 11 beyond the arc, bringing her within two of Sadie Stelter’s career three point record of 199.
•Stoltzman was solid again for the Mustangs, tallying 18 points on 8 of 13 shooting, seven rebounds, and five assists while committing just one turnover. Wall poured in 17 points, shooting 6 of 11 from the field and 3 of 6 from deep, and Gehloff also reached double-figures in scoring, picking up 11 points and five rebounds.
SIOUX FALLS SERIES HISTORY
•SMSU and Sioux Falls will meet for the 40th time with the Cougars holding a 20-19 edge in a series that started in 1969.
•SMSU defeated USF 75-67 in Sioux Falls on Nov. 23 earlier this season.
