Blackjack trio leads DB girls to NLS Invite win

NLS GIRLS INVITATIONAL

GRANITE FALLS — Kylar Hjelmeland and Claire Stratmoen both finished in the top 5 of Thursday’s New London-Spicer Girls Golf Invitational, leading the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks to a first-place finish in the 15-team field.

Hjelmeland placed third with a 12-over 84, carding eight pars in the round including four in the first five holes of the front 9. Stratmoen, meanwhile, was one stroke behind her in fifth place at 85 with another eight pars.

Senior Alyssa Swedzinski also put together a top-10 round, placing eighth in the 69-player field with a 92. Her round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-3 12th hole.

The Blackjacks compiled a team score of 356, beating out runner-up runner-up Glencoe-Silver Lake of Class 2A by 18 strokes.

Laura Schreier rounded out the Dawson-Boyd scorers in 12th with a 95.

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City’s Brooke Brekke was the individual champion of the meet with a 4-over 76 and GSL’s Eva Stuewe took second with an 81.

Dawson-Boyd returns to action on Monday with a Camden Conference North meet at Madison Country Club, slated for 4:30 p.m.

CAMDEN SOUTH MEET

GRANITE FALLS — The Lakeview girls golf team had four players place in the top seven of Thursday’s Camden South meet, leading the Lakers to a first-place finish at the event.

Lakeview shot a 194 as a team, beating out runner-up Minneota’s 225 and third-place Canby’s 226. Yellow medicine East and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton did not field team scores.

Lauren Boe was the Lakers’ top individual performer in the meet, finishing as the runner-up with a 44 to trail only Canby’s Maddison Richter with a 42. Richter logged four pars on the day and Boe carded two.

Lakeview’s Jersey Stensrud tied Minneota’s Ava Panka for third with a 49, and Nora Forslund tied TMB’s Taylor Munson for fifth at 50. Allison Isaacs rounded out the Laker scorers with a 51.

Minneota also had another pair of top-10 finishes with Alexis Thostenson in eighth with a 54 and Cheyenne Hoffman in 10th with a 60. TMB’s Madelyn Elsen placed ninth with a 59.

The next Camden South meet is slated for Tuesday at Countryside Golf Club in Minneota on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Marshall 178, Redwood Valley 202

REDWOOD FALLS — Dayton Webskowski and Maddi Panka took the top two spots in the Marshall girls golf team’s dual against Redwood Valley on Thursday, leading the Tigers to a 178-202 win.

Webskowski carded a 37 on the day, scoring a par on each of her first seven holes to finish the day at 2-over. Panka, meanwhile, shot an 8-over 43 with four pars to take second and beat Redwood’s top two scorers by four strokes.

Emry Weller and Kathryn Gordon tied for fifth at 14-over 49 to round out the Tiger scorers.

The Marshall girls next travel to New Ulm Country Club for their first Big South Division meet of the season on Monday at 4 p.m.

BOYS

CAMDEN SOUTH MEET

GRANITE FALLS — Blayze Hulzebos and Owen Dalager took the top two spots at Thursday’s Camden Conference South boys golf meet, helping the Vikings edge past Canby for first place in the six-team event.

Minneota finished with a team score of 167, beating out Canby’s 177 and Lakeview’s 181. The hosting Yellow Medicine East Sting placed fourth at 189, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton took fifth at 201 and Renville County West did not field a team score.

Hulzebos and Dalager each shot a 2-over 38 on the day to tie for first place. Hulzebos birdied holes 4 and 6, also notching four pars, and Dalager birdied holes 2 and 6 with three pars.

Canby’s success came largely from its depth. The Lancers had four golfers tied for fifth or better in the meet. Isaac Bollerud led the charge with a 41 after he birdied his final hole, and Lane Citrowske and Daven VanEngen tied for fifth with a 42. Andrew Bach and Jaxson Ramberg tied for 25th as the Lancers’ final scorer with a 52.

Jase and Randy Sorensen rounded out Minneota’s scorers. Sorensen shot a 45 to tie for eighth and Sorensen shot a 46 to tie for 11th with Yellow Medicine East’s Jack Mensink.

Eighth grader Ledgen Javens was the Lakers’ top finisher on the day, placing third in the30-player event with a 40. He was one of two middle schoolers in the top 10, along with TMB’s Charles Xiong shooting a 45 to tie for eighth.

Cooper McCosh led YME with a 43.

The next Camden South meet is slated for Tuesday at Countryside Golf Club in Minneota on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Marshall 159, Redwood Valley 164

REDWOOD FALLS — Deacon Wing finished five strokes ahead of the next closest finisher in the Marshall boys golf team’s dual against Redwood Valley Thursday, leading the Tigers to a 159-164 win over the Cardinals.

Wing finished the day at 2-under 35. He was particularly strong down the final stretch of his round, logging three birdies and a par in his final five holes. He also parred each of his first four holes.

Redwood took second and third, but Marshall got back on the board with Jaylen Koster in fourth place at 6-over 41, highlighted by three straight pars to close out his round.

Freshman Elijah Winn was Marshall’s No. 3 scorer, tying Redwood Valley’s Mason Frank for fifth with 42 strokes, and Ethan Wendorff placed seventh with a 43.

Marshall’s boys golf team returns to the links with a Big South Division event at Waseca Lakeside Club on Monday at 4 p.m.
