Prep baseball roundup April 16, 2026

Minneota 10, RCW 0 (6 inn.)

MINNEOTA — The Minneota baseball picked up its first win of the season in dominant fashion at its home opener with a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over Renville County West Thursday night. Carson Javers shined in the win, pitching a complete game with a near no-hitter, allowing just two hits while retiring 10 batters.

Mason Javers also had a big night on the offensive end, going 3 of 4 at the plate with two runs and a pair of RBIs, along with a homerun in the fifth inning to left field.

The first three innings were scoreless between both teams before the Vikings got their bats going and scored nine runs between the fourth and fifth innings, five coming in the fight.

Carson Javers scored the first run of the night to get the rally started in the fourth inning, scoring behind an RBI single from Mason Javers.

Mason Javers was able to run home shortly after with the help of a Landon Esping sacrifice-out. Creed Stassen and Seth Paluch were the last two runs in the fourth, on Logan Pohlen and Sawyer Bradley RBIs.

Minneota kept up much of the same tempo in its next at-bat in the bottom of the fourth, extending to a 9-0 lead.

Kaden Christensen stole home right before Mason Javers sent the ball over the fence for his homer. Stassen, Pohlen and Paluch each scored once more as well before the Jaguars could put a stop to the inning following a strikeout.

The Vikings had an impressive 14-2 hitting advantage over RCW, and also had a clean slate of no errors. RCW has two errors.

Minneota (1-4) will look to keep the momentum trending in the right direction when it travels to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. start.

DAWSON — The Dawson-Boyd baseball team exploded for seven second-inning runs in its Thursday Camden Conference matchup against Central Minnesota Christian, riding that momentum to a 10-0 mercy-rule win in six innings.

The Blackjacks’ plate discipline was key to their early rally, as Holland Schacherer, Aedyn Dahl and Ace Larson drew consecutive walks to load the bases with no outs. A fourth walk to Jackson Shugel pushed across one run, Colten Bothun and Eli Olson each singled in another pair, and a one-run single from Kam Sather and a bases-loaded walk to Dahl pushed across the final runs of the frame.

Olson’s lights-out pitching made sure the offensive surge was more than enough to get Dawson-Boyd the win. Olson threw a complete-game shutout, striking out six batters while limiting the Bluejays to four hits and a pair of walks.

The Blackjacks added one more run in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings to trigger the mercy rule. Ryker Gruwell scored the clinching run when he walked and then scored on a Bothun single with one out.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 4-1 on the season and next goes on the road to take on Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

TRACY — A late flurry of runs sunk the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team in its Camden Conference matchup against Lac qui Parle Valley Thursday night. The two teams were tied at nine runs apiece through four innings, but the Eagles scored 11 runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings to hand TMB a 20-12 loss.

Brody Hauger had a big game for the Panthers despite the loss, finishing with a pair of hits and a walk for four RBIs. David Schuh, Jackson Kruse and Connor Lanoue each also contributed a pair of hits, including a triple and a walk for Schuh.

LQPV took the lead for good when a single and back-to-back doubles yielded a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and a third double with two outs brought the score to 12-9. The Eagles continued to pile on an inning later, tacking on another eight runs to put the game out of reach.

In the bottom of the sixth, Connor Lanoue doubled and Griffin Zick was hit by a pitch to put two runners on, and an RBI double from Aidan Sanow and a two-run single from Hauger cut the deficit to eight runs. Yet, LQPV retired each of the next four batters to hold on for the win.

TMB fell into an early hole after giving up nine second-inning runs. Still, the Panthers slowly clawed their way back into the game.

Kruse and Schuh singled and Sanow walked to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second and Hauger capitalized with a two-run single. Sanow scored on a passed ball in between a pair of walks to Lanoue and Brayden Marron, and Squires drove in a run on a ground out to cut the deficit to 9-5.

Schuh and Hauger drew consecutive walks to start the third, with Sanow and Hauger each scoring on wild pitches, and Marron drew another walk before scoring on a Lanoue single. Schuh also triples in the fourth before scoring on a passed ball to tie up the game at nine runs apiece.

Jace Sigler went 4 of 5 at the plate and led the Lancers with three runs, while Will Abrahamson also went 3 of 5 with a team-high four RBIs. Ben Drietz also went 3 of 4 with a pair of RBIs.

But, energy spread throughout the Lancers quickly in the bottom of the sixth to keep the runs coming in for their 10-run surge.

Sigler got the rally started with an RBI double to left field that scored Cody Stoll. Stoll initially walked to reach base.

Sigler made his way to third and stole home on a wild pitch, as Rangaard scored on a Drietz RBI single.

Brennan Giese also scored on a wild pitch right before Drietz got home with a Cash Antony RBI, then Abrahmason stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run RBI single out to right field that allowed Antony and Landon Meyer-Thovson enough time to both run home.

Abrahamson and Stoll accounted for the next two runs, and Matthew Zitzmann hit the game-ending RBI single on a ground ball to left field to score Sigler to apply the mercy rule.

The Lancers’ baserunning also played a big role in the dominant win, finishing with a collective 13 stolen bases.
