Marshall tennis goes 1-2 to open season

GLENCOE — The Marshall girls tennis team opened its season with a 1-2 record at the Glencoe-Silver Lake quadrangular in Glencoe on Saturday. The Tigers earned a 5-2 win over the host Panthers, while Jordan defeated Marshall 5-2 and Minneapolis Washburn earned a 7-0 win over Marshall.

Against GSL, Marshall won three of the four singles matches, as Taylor DePover defeated Jenna Trippel (6-0, 6-1), Taylor Miller defeated Abby Ziegler (6-3, 6-0) and Naomi Schroeder defeated Jadyn Stuewe (6-1, 6-1). Regan Loft and Anna Sievert went to a third set before Sievert eventually pulled out the win (7-6, 3-6, 10-4).

The Tigers also took two of the three doubles matches. Cecily Aufenthie and Siri Christensen earned a 7-6, 6-4 win over Mariah Gutkenecht and Bree Ryherd. Aubrey Schaefer and Justine Kirst also earned a 6-1, 7-5 win over Nevaeh Kohout and Abigail Christensen.

Against Jordan, both of Marshall’s wins came in singles play. Loft defeated Dyllan Wellhausen 6-3, 6-3, while DePover earned a 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 win over Mak Haugen.
