SMSU TENNIS: Mustangs move on in NSIC Tournament with 4-2 win over Upper Iowa

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s tennis team, the No. 3 seed, earned a hard-fought 4-2 victory over No. 6 Upper Iowa in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament at Huether Family Match Point on Friday afternoon.
SMSU will advance to the semifinals and face No. 2 seed Winona State today at 2 p.m.
The match opened with doubles play as SMSU secured the team point winning two matches. Roz Oye and Cora Delich earned a 6-0 win at No. 3, while Courtenay Leonard and Joana Reis Indio rallied from down 4-5 to earning a 7-5 victory and picking up the team point.
Kristina Vuksanovic and Faith Madikwe lost 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Delich earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5, while Faith Madikwe recorded a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Maja Louisa Harck would later lock up the fourth team point and the overall match victory for the Mustangs with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles.
Reis Indio lost by scores of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while Vuksanovic dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match at No. 3. Leonard’s match at No. 2 was not finished following the victory by Harck.
Winona State defeated SMSU earlier this season, 6-1, on Feb. 25 in St. Peter.
