PREP FOOTBALL: Minneota ready for semifinal matchup against Rushford-Peterson

MINNEOTA — Last week, the Minneota football team opened its state tournament in strong fashion, defeating Mahnomen-Waubun 34-0 to move to 12-0.
Jonah Gruenes led Minneota with 78 rushing yards on 11 carries and a touchdown while Anthony Rybinski added 76 yards on six carries, Conner Sik had 62 rushing yards on 13 carries and two scores, AJ Josephson had 43 yards on five carries and Max Rost had a 34-yard rushing touchdown.
Isaac Pohlen completed two of his four pass attempts for 25 yards and a touchdown while Jonah Gruenes had a 21-yard catch and Rybinski had a four-yard touchdown reception.
Defensively, Jonah Gruenes, Zack Fier and Jackson Esping led Minneota with five tackles each.
Minneota’s shutout is its ninth in its 12 games this season, with the Vikings offense outscoring its opponents 496-25 and averaging 41.3 points per game. Defensively, Minneota has allowed just 2.1 points per game.
Today, the top-seeded Vikings will take on Rushford-Peterson in the Class A semifinals, with kickoff scheduled for 9 a.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium. Similar to Minneota, the Trojans are undefeated on the season with a perfect 12-0 mark and have averaged 33.6 points per game on offense while limiting teams to an average of 7.8 points per game. They have also outscored their opponents 404-94.
Rushford-Peterson will be led by Malachi Bunke, Justin Ruberg, Brady Gile, Hadyn Kahoun, Jacob Meyer and Andrew Wilkemeyer.
