SMSU SWIMMING AND DIVING: Bohnert wins 100-yard backstroke as SMSU splits triangular in Mankato
MANKATO — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s swimming & diving team opened the 2021-22 season on Friday night splitting a triangular hosted by Minnesota State at Highland Pool. SMSU lost to Minnesota State, 236-99, but earned a 214-82 victory over Concordia-St. Paul.
Natalie Bohnert, a two-time All-NSIC honoree in the 100-yard backstroke, won the event tonight with a time of 59.79. She also recorded a third-place time in the 50-yard backstroke at 28.25 and was third in the 50-yard butterfly at 27.83.
Quincie Klein also had a strong meet finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.03 and was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle touching the wall at 5:32.75.
Juliana Villa picked up a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.26.
Heather Arlen and Lydia Lindgren placed sixth and seventh respectively in the 50-yard butterfly at 29.26 and 29.44.
The Mustangs’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of MacKenzie Kallevig, Villa, Grace Busch and Maija Geier finished third overall with a time of 1:43.83.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to action next Friday hosting the University of Jamestown at the Don Palm Natatorium starting at 6 p.m.
